After two finishes of 30th or worse so far in 2021, Aric Almirola was looking to right the ship for his No. 10 team with a solid finish in Las Vegas.

The hope was dashed after a tire failure sent the Stewart-Haas Racing driver into the outside wall on Lap 179.

The tire began coming apart about half a lap prior and the Florida driver tried to nurse it back to pit road but ultimately failed.

The damage sustained was enough to end the day for the Florida driver, thanks to NASCAR’s Damage Vehicle Policy.

Almirola is scored as the first official retirement of Sunday’s Pennzoil 400, finishing the race in the 38th position.
