Brendan Gaughan, who revealed in the middle of July that he had tested positive for COVID-19, will be back behind the wheel of the No. 62 Beard Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE when the NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Daytona International Speedway Road Course on Sunday, August 16th, according to official team rosters that have been submitted to NASCAR.

An attempt to reach Gaughan for comment on his upcoming race at the Daytona Road Course has gone unanswered at the time of initial publishing. If a response is given, it will be included in the story.

Darren Shaw will be the team’s crew chief for the race.

Gaughan, who is participating in his final year of competition in the NASCAR Cup Series, has generally only run the restrictor plate events in recent years with Beard Motorsports, but they will dust off Gaughan’s road racing abilities in a couple of weeks.

The 45-year old scored a victory at Road America in the NASCAR Xfinity Series back in 2014. Gaughan has only contested two Cup Series road course events in his career, one at Watkins Glen (34th-place finish) and one at Sonoma (26th-place finish). Gaughan will look to better that finishing position this time around.

In part-time duty over the last four seasons, Gaughan has scored three top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The Beard Motorsports team is also expected to compete in the August 29th Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.
