Talk about raising some eyebrows.

Landon Cassill, driving Morgan Shepherd’s No. 89 car in the NASCAR Xfinity Series has recorded the 13th-fastest lap in qualifying for the Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This marks the best-ever starting spot for the team (since their return to the Xfinity Series in 2007) at a 1.5-mile track. This also marks the second-highest qualifying position for the 89 car in that same span (Shepherd qualified 10th at the July Daytona race in 2009).

Additionally, this is just the third top-15 start for the team since the 2007 season.

Shepherd and the No. 89 team have served as a start-and-park organization since the 2014 season, and they haven’t ran the full distance in any race since 2013. However, they have not shown the speed that Cassill has  all week long in the No. 89.

Hopefully, they decide to go all-in and run the full distance, but for now the plan for the team is to not run 300 miles. If that ends up being the case, it’s a damn shame because Cassill in the No. 89 has been one hell of a story so far this weekend.
