William Byron on Joey Logano Post-Darlington: “He’s a Piece of Sh*t”

William Byron was visibly upset with Joey Logano following a late-race nerf for the victory, which saw the No. 24 come home in 13th. PC: Screengrab taken from video by Noah Lewis.

With five laps to go in Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, William Byron looked set to grab his third victory of the season, leading over Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick.

However, as Byron noted in a post-race interview with FOX Sports, the Hendrick Motorsports driver was starting to lose a right-rear tire on his No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro.

Logano – looking for his first win of 2022 – closed rapidly on Byron, making an aggressive move coming to the white flag that sent the No. 24 into the outside wall, ruining any chance the Charlotte, North Carolina-native had at scoring a top-five result.

The 24-year-old was – understandably — upset, after limping home with two flat tires to finish in 13th. Exiting his car, Byron, who usually is a level-headed character, was visibly heated, talking to Jeff Gordon – Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports — and saying:

“He’s a piece of shit. He can’t fucking win unless he drives through everybody.”

When Logano climbed from his car after the race, the crowd erupted into boos that filled the 1.366-mile facility, to which Byron responded with ‘it’s obvious’, as well as a gesture to tell the crowd to boo him louder.

Noah Lewis captured footage of the interaction between William Byron and Jeff Gordon and uploaded it to YouTube:
