UPDATE 9:14 PM ET: Dale Earnhardt Jr. will officially take the weekend off from doing on-air analysis after the crash that took place on the runway at the airport Thursday. NBC Sports released a statement.

UPDATE 7:39 PM ET: Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been released from the hospital according to WCYB.com and has been spotted at Bristol Motor Speedway. It appears that he may continue with his NBC Sports obligations this weekend.

UPDATE: 4:54 PM ET: An updated report from wjhl.com states that the reason Earnhardt was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center was for cuts and abrasions, no serious injuries to report. wjhl.com, also adds that Earnhardt’s family dog was on board the plane as well.
UPDATE: 4:46 PM ET: According to a Tweet from Earnhardt Jr.’s sister Kelley Earnhardt Miller, the plane was occupied by two pilots, Earnhardt Jr., his wife Amy and their daughter Isla. According to the Tweet, everyone has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation. It appears that is everyone who was on board the plane based on the tweet.

UPDATE 4:37 PM ET: According to a new report from NewsChannel9.com, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been transported to a hospital following the plane crash that took place Thursday afternoon.
Earnhardt, his wife Amy and everyone on board the plane did escape and injuries to all involved are being considered not serious at this time.
What a scary moment. Thursday afternoon, a JR Motorsports plane carrying numerous passengers including Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy crashed at the runway at Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
According to a report from WJHL.com, all of the passengers on the plane were able to evacuate, and the Earnhardt’s have escaped without injury.
The plane caught fire after going off course on the runway.
Earnhardt Jr. is of course the co-owner of JR Motorsports, a NASCAR Xfinity Series team which is competing in the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee this weekend.
Earnhardt drove in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for 18 full-time seasons, before retiring at the end of 2017. Over his career behind the wheel in the Cup Series, Earnhardt won 26 races, and was the sport’s most popular driver 15 times.
Earnhardt is also an analyst for NBC Sports during their coverage of NASCAR and he is scheduled to be on the air this weekend during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race (Friday) and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race (Saturday). No word if this will affect his ability to perform his analyst duties just yet.

I was stunned when I heard about this crash which then turned almost immediately to elation when I learned all survived. It is my belief that JR was injured more than the others because he was making sure his family was safe. Thank you Lord for saving everyone. I cannot begin to think how horrible it would be without this wonderful family especially watching Isla grow up!
