Ryan Preece looked like he was headed to his second-straight top-10 finish, which is incredible because Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway marked Preece’s second-career start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, until misfortune struck.

With 53 laps remaining, Preece was exiting his pit stall when race leader Ryan Blaney and BJ McLeod were coming into their pit stalls. Preece looked down for a moment to check his techometer to make sure he was not speeding, when McLeod came to an abrupt stop so he could get his car serviced. Preece didn’t see it in time and plowed into the back of the No. 52 car.

“I mean I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t speeding and when I looked up [McLeod] was coming into the pit, so, it’s a mistake what are you going to do,” said Preece. “It’s unfortunate for us because we were having a really good run. Like I said we are going to have some real good cars this season.”

The crash wiped out Preece’s amazing top-10 run, but the rookie continues to impress early in his rookie campaign for JTG Daugherty Racing.
