Jimmie Johnson triggered a 17-car melee in the Advance Auto Parts Clash last Sunday at Daytona International Speedway, and in Thursday’s Gander RV Duel Race 1 Johnson again caused a caution.
On lap 26, Johnson made contact with Kyle Busch, which sent Busch’s No. 18 M&M’s Chocolate Bar Camry spinning.
Following the Duel race, where Johnson finished eighth, he took fault for the caution.
“Yeah, I just got it wrong. Clearly,” Johnson said. “We got three wide and I just kind of misjudged that situation in being three wide and trying to tuck in behind Kyle. Unfortunately, just turned him around. Apologies to he and his team and I know that is not what they wanted with their 500 car, but I just got it wrong there.”
It was little consolation for Busch as he wound up 18th in the Duel, one lap down.
