Tony Kanaan will finish 12th in the Camping World SRX Series event at Stafford Motor Speedway after a stellar run went south with brake issues on a late-race restart.

A stellar performance in Thursday’s Camping World SRX Series event from Stafford Motor Speedway, Tony Kanaan will only have a finish of 12th place to show for it, after a vicious crash on a late-race restart.

The 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner was leading the event with nine laps to go, when the brakes failed on his No. 66 Purdue University entry, sending him hard into the outside wall at the half-mile facility.

Kanaan had led 24 laps of the feature race, after making an impressive move for the lead around hometown favorite Ryan Preece, and keeping pace while he and Daniel Suarez battled throughout much of the race’s first half.
