Ryan Preece, a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Cup Series for Stewart-Haas Racing, will contest the second Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event of the 2023 season at Stafford Motor Speedway on July 20, the track confirmed Thursday.
“There have been a lot of moving parts over the last few days, and some unprecedented things have happened. One of the most exciting things in all of that is the addition of Ryan Preece to the SRX field at Stafford on July 20th,” said Don Hawk, CEO of SRX. “’m a modified guy. I know what he can do in one of those, and in a NASCAR Cup car. He is a perfect fit for us, and the fans at Stafford will hopefully come back to root on one of their own racers.”
The second event of the six-race summer series was originally scheduled to take place at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont, but historic flooding forced the series to relocate the event – on short notice – to Stafford.
A native of Connecticut, Preece is no stranger to Stafford Motor Speedway, having competed in 41 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events at the facility, winning nine times, most recently in 2021. The 32-year-old driver has also recorded 25 top-10s and six poles at the venue.
According to a press release from the Camping World SRX Series, Preece is scheduled to be the 13th entrant for the event. Kenny Wallace, Daniel Suarez, Greg Biffle, and Tony Kanaan are the other four part-time drivers scheduled to compete.
Preece will look to be the second full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver to score a victory at Stafford Speedway in the series after Denny Hamlin scored the season-opening victory in a rain-shortened event on Thursday.
