Watch out, everyone, Shane van Gisbergen showed on Tuesday night that he can indeed win races on ovals, too. The native of Auckland, New Zealand, who has taken the NASCAR Cup Series by storm due to his road racing prowess, captured his first-ever oval victory in a Legends Car at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Pro Legends A-Feature on the final night of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout.

Van Gisbergen, who has competed throughout the entirety of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout, says it took him some time to get used to the Legends Cars and the tight confines of the Charlotte Motor Speedway frontstretch short track.

“It’s just time getting used to it. These guys have been doing it for a long time,” van Gisbergen said in victory lane following the race. “Even though they’re young kids, they are brilliant, very good drivers. It was just fun. Just taking my time every week, and amazing to get a result.”

While the win may have come in a tiny Legends Car, around a quarter-mile bullring on the frontstretch of the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway, the 36-year-old racer didn’t have it easy as he was matched up against a field of drivers that included Bubba Wallace, who is fresh off a win in the Brickyard 400, and Keelan Harvick, the ultra-talented 13-year-old son of NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, among others.

As Wallace struggled to a 16th-place finish, and Harvick came home in seventh, van Gisbergen was able to hold off Jake Bollman in the closing laps to capture the victory.

“I had a blast. The Summer Shootout has been great, fun Tuesday nights. Thanks to Team SSR and Joe Ryan Racing. We’ve had a blast, Bubba [Wallace] and Scotty [McLaughlin], and I. Thanks to everyone for coming out,” van Gisbergen said with an ear-to-ear smile.

Wallace, who picked up the biggest win of his NASCAR Cup Series career just days ago was hopeful for the continuation of momentum in Tuesday night’s Legends Car event; however, his car didn’t feel like a contender all night long.

“Not the ending to the Shootout that we wanted, but it was cool to see SVG get his first oval win. He had to go down a couple of levels to Legends Cars to get it,” Wallace, who finished 16th, joked. “But all in all, it’s been fun racing with him, and [IndyCar’s] Scotty [McLaughlin], and Keelan this year. Hoped for better results, but all in all, it was good.”

Kyle Busch Finishes Summer Shootout With Seventh Master Legends Victory

Kyle Busch capped off an ultra-successful run in the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout with his seventh win in the Masters Legends division to cap off Tuesday night’s Summer Shootout finale.

The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion started from the pole position and came out on top of Jesse Bunnell in the 25-lap A-Feature on Tuesday evening. The win marked Busch’s fourth consecutive victory in the Master Legends division to end the Summer Shootout series.

Busch competed in eight of the 10 rounds of the Masters Legends events during the Summer Shootout, in addition to the seven wins, Busch also recorded a third-place run on July 1.

Brexton Busch, the 10-year-old son of Kyle Busch, was also in action Tuesday night in the Cook Out Summer Shootout. The younger Busch scored a victory in the A-Feature for the Bandits division, as he came out on top of Gerald White III and Jhett Phipps.

The younger Busch would also score a third-place finish in the A-Feature in the Charger Legends division on Tuesday night, a race that was won by Parker Ives.

Over the course of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout, Brexton Busch racked up seven wins in the Bandolero Bandits division and two wins in the Charger Legends division. He also took home the overall Summer Shootout Bandolero Bandit championship on Tuesday night.

The Busch family collected quite a bit of hardware at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Summer.
