William Byron led the way in single-lap speed in NASCAR Cup Series practice Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, who is one of the 12 drivers remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, turned a fast lap time of 29.795 seconds (127.834 mph) around the 1.058-mile speedway.
Byron, who went out in Group 2, topped AJ Allmendinger, the fastest driver from Group 1, to pace the session by 0.044 seconds. Allmendinger, the polesitter last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, looks to have another fast No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet underneath him this weekend.
Ryan Preece was third-fastest in the session, while Riley Herbst and Cole Custer rounded out the top-five fastest.
There were only three Playoff drivers inside the top-10 of the session results as track conditions seemed more favorable for the first group in practice. Ryan Blaney (6th) and Bubba Wallace (7th) were the other two Playoff drivers inside the top-10 of the session.
