Mike Harmon Racing, which fields the No. 47 Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will enter a new partnership in 2023 as Gary Keller will join forces with the organization.
“Mike Harmon Racing is pleased to announce that Gary Keller will be joining MHR for the upcoming 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. Gary coming on board is a blessing to MHR, which will be now known as MHR with Gary Keller,” Mike Harmon Racing team owner Mike Harmon said in a team statement. “I’m very happy that Gary believes in us he sees the passion and the hard work that we put into our racing. It’s the shot in the arm we need here at MHR with Gary Keller. We are looking straight ahead into 2023 with nothing but positivity and success.”
If Keller’s name sounds familiar, he was a NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team owner himself in the early 2000s and he has served as a partner with other organizations over the years, most recently with JD Motorsports from 2012 until 2021 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Mike Harmon Racing has been a staple in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the last 14 years. The organization has made 387 starts with two top-10 finishes in its history in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
After solid performances in 2020 and 2021, the team had a trying year in 2022 after they were hit with sanctions by NASCAR for an L2 testing policy violation back in January when the team brought a couple of their cars to a charity event at Rockingham Speedway and turned some laps at the event.
Initially, the team was hit with a $50,000 fine and a six-race suspension for their crew chief Ryan Bell, as well as a 75-point penalty for their No. 74 entry (their second car).
But following an appeal, the monetary fine and suspension of their crew chief were rescinded.
Now, after a rough year, Mike Harmon Racing will look to bounce back in 2023 and with the help of Gary Keller, the organization very well could be on the path to their best season in their organization’s history.
