Grant Enfinger will have a new crew chief on his No. 23 GMS Racing team effective immediately, as Jeff Hensley has moved from ThorSport Racing, where he was crew chief for Matt Crafton.
Hensley, who served as Enfinger’s crew chief from 2017 to 2020, put together five wins in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition and the duo reached the Championship 4 in 2020. Hensley is excited to pick up where he and Enfinger left off.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to return to GMS Racing and reunite with Grant,” Hensley said in a GMS Racing release. “We have great chemistry, and Grant is a driver that I have a lot of respect for on and off the racetrack. We have high hopes for the remainder of the 2022 season, and we have a team capable of contending for wins on a consistent basis. I look forward to showing our strength in these final eight races of the year.”
Enfinger, like Hensley, is excited as he knows what they have accomplished together in the past.
“Jeff and I have had success together in the past, and I’m looking forward to having him back to call the shots for the remainder of the season on our Champion Power Equipment Chevy,” Enfinger said. “We know each other well so we should be able to pick up where we left off a couple years ago.”
Enfinger sits ninth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings after 14 races in the 2022 season, and he has a 10 point advantage over Crafton in 10th. Enfinger is 39 points ahead of Derek Kraus, who sits 11th in the standings. 10 drivers make the playoffs in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
There are two races remaining in the regular season of the 2022 NASCAR Truck Series schedule.
Overall, Hensley has 18-career wins as a crew chief in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Hensley was also the 1990 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship winning crew chief with Chuck Bown.
Hensley moving into the crew chief position officially pushes Charles Denike off the pit box for the No. 23 truck, but the team did not address what the future holds for Denike in their release.
ThorSport Racing has yet to announce a replacement for Hensley for Crafton’s No. 88 team.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is in action next at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 9th.
