Jeb Burton, who moved to Our Motorsports for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season in what was originally announced as a two-year deal, will not return to the organization for the 2023 season.
Burton made the announcement of his departure from the team and explained that he will have an announcement in the near future about his 2023 plans, in a statement posted to Twitter on Friday.
“Thank you to all my fans and partners for their continued support,” Burton said in the statement. “Thank you also goes out to the entire Our Motorsports organization for their support this season. I appreciate the opportunity that Chris Our gave me to drive the No. 27 for Our Motorsports. As this season ends, I’m looking forward to the road ahead. I have great partners and fans and look forward to making an announcement in the near future about our plans for next season.”
While it seemed like there was a lot of optimism for Burton and the Our Motorsports team at the time of their announcement at the NASCAR Hall of Fame back in December, things have soured over the course of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
Burton, who had enjoyed success over the past few years driving part-time for JR Motorsports for two seasons (2019 and 2020) and then running full-time with Kaulig Racing, where he scored his first-career NASCAR Xfinity Series win in 2022, is the only driver from that Our Motorsports announcement in December to not score a top-10 finish this season.
While Burton has had several close run-ins with a top-10 finish, only to finish 11th to 14th, the driver still sits 17th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings with two races left in the season.
However, Burton has racked up six DNFs by way of crashes this season and he has gotten into post-race altercations with Noah Gragson and his Our Motorsports teammate Anthony Alfredo among others.
It’s been a frustrating tenure for Burton at Our Motorsports and the pairing will end after just one season.
Burton will pilot the No. 27 State Water Heaters Chevrolet Camaro for the team this weekend in the Dead On Tools 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
