After a difficult couple of weekends, G2G Racing has decided to skip the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at WWT Raceway, team co-owner Tim Viens tells TobyChristie.com.
The organization, which fields the No. 46 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro on a full-time basis this season, comes off of back-to-back weekends of having a damaged vehicle, with major accidents at North Wilkesboro and Charlotte.
At North Wilkesboro, the second-year team didn’t get the chance to post a lap in qualifying, after Akinori Ogata had a major mechanical issue in practice, causing the No. 46 to catch fire and crash in turn three.
Then, in Friday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte, seven days after the North Wilkesboro accident, the team suffered another truck with major damage, after Armani Williams spun off turn four, hitting the inside pit wall.
By choosing to skip the June 3 event at Gateway, the organization will have more than three weeks to prepare its entry for Nashville Superspeedway, in which Memphis Villarreal will be behind the wheel of the No. 46.
Villarreal, who debuted with the organization at Martinsville, was originally scheduled to pilot the entry at WWT Raceway, in what would have been his second career start in the NASCAR Truck Series.
Through the opening 11 events of the 2023 NASCAR Truck Series season, G2G Racing has scored a pair of top-20 results, one from Akinori Ogata at Atlanta, and another from Brennan Poole at Kansas.
Ogata’s 17th-place finish at Atlanta in March was the best finish for G2G Racing in the organization’s two-season history in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event.
Leaving Charlotte, G2G’s No. 46 Toyota Tundra sits 37th in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Owner Points, meaning in the event of more than 36 entries, the team will be faced with the need to qualify for events.
