Chase Purdy to Carry Colors of His Alma Mater Ole Miss at Talladega

It always makes for cool paint schemes when NCAA college athletics and NASCAR mix. It adds more to the coolness factor when the driver actually attended the school that is on their vehicle. That will be the case for Chase Purdy this weekend as he will carry the colors of his alma mater, Ole Miss, when he heads to Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.

Ole Miss Athletics made the announcement of their sponsorship of Purdy on Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from Hattori Racing Enterprises, Purdy, who hails from Meridian, Mississippi, attended class at Ole Miss for three years before ultimately deciding to kick his racing career back into full gear in 2020.

To say this is a special sponsorship pairing for Purdy would be an understatement.

“This is so awesome to have Ole Miss on the truck,” Purdy said. “I’ve been a fan of the athletic programs for a long time, especially football. It’s a special place to me with it being my home school, going to school there myself, and having my brother currently enrolled. Ole Miss has been a big part of our lives for quite some time, so to have the colors on our truck is just incredible, especially leading into the homecoming football game this weekend.”

For Ole Miss (the University of Mississippi) this marks a chance for their solid athletic fan base to connect with a driver in the field of Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, and it comes at an iconic track — Talladega — that is relatively close to their campus.

“What an exciting event for the Ole Miss fans across the country,” Paris Buchanan, Ole Miss Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Fan Experience said. “The Talladega Superspeedway is one of the premier venues in all of NASCAR, and it will certainly be special to have Ole Miss Athletics represented in the race. We’ll all be cheering on Chase and his team to take home the checkered flag in the No. 61 truck on Saturday.”

The special sponsorship pairing actually comes at potentially the perfect time for Purdy, as he has really strung together some solid races over his last 10 starts. Purdy’s one top-10 finish, so far in 2022, has come during this stretch and the 22-year-old driver has recorded six of his 11 top-15 finishes over the last 10 races.

With positive momentum and a little extra motivation with his alma mater on his No. 61 truck, who knows? Purdy very well could record his best finish of the 2022 NCWTS season this weekend.
