Video: William Sawalich Out at Las Vegas After First-Lap Wreck

William Sawalich has met an early end to his afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after an early accident destroyed the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota GR Supra on the first lap of Saturday’s Xfinity Series event.

Sawalich started the event just outside the top-10, in his first trip to the 1.5-mile intermediate racetrack in Las Vegas, Nevada, when air packed on the rear bumper, courtesy of Jeb Burton, caused the No. 18 to snap loose.

Unfortunately, the Eden Prarie, Minnesota-native snapped into the outside wall, while behind him, the entire field was forced to attempt to checkup and miss the wreck happening ahead.

The majority of the field was successful in missing the wreck, but contact from Daniel Dye into the rear-bumper of Parker Retzlaff turned the Alpha Prime Racing driver down the backstretch.

In an incredible display of car control, Retzlaff was able to avoid making contact with the outside wall, and kept his Suave Chevrolet from getting any kind of major damage, and allowing the No. 4 to get a tire change and continue on his way.

Sawalich, though, was deemed out of the event, completing zero laps.
