Ty Gibbs is the winner of the Dead On Tools 250 at Martinsville Speedway, but the circumstances surrounding it are far from squeaky-clean, after he crashed his teammate Brandon Jones on the final lap.

That’s certainly one way to do it.

Ty Gibbs will be shown in the record books as the winner of the 2022 Dead On Tools 250 at Martinsville Speedway, but the circumstances that surrounded it aren’t exactly squeaky-clean.

In the third attempt at a NASCAR Overtime restart, Gibbs had fallen to the runner-up position behind teammate Brandon Jones, who needed to win the race in order to compete for a championship at Phoenix Raceway.

However, after taking the white flag, Ty Gibbs punted the No. 19 Toyota GR Supra into the first corner, sending Jones, a seven-year veteran of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, around and into the outside wall.

Having taken the white flag, the next flag ended the race, which in this instance was the caution flag, as NASCAR felt it necessary to slow the vehicles down on the final lap of the race, to attend to Jones’ destroyed Menards Toyota Supra.

Gibbs collected his sixth victory of the season, while Brandon Jones would be assigned a 23rd-place finish at the conclusion of the event, meaning he will not go to Phoenix with a shot at the title.
