Video: Spencer Pumpelly backs into tire barrier in Turn 1

(PC: NASCAR on FOX)

Spencer Pumpelly’s second Xfinity start of the 2021 season will end as a DNF after backing his No. 6 Camaro into the Turn 1 tire barrier on lap 28 of Saturday’s Henry 180.

The Virginia road course ringer was carrying a high amount of speed heading into turn 1 but lost control of his car before heading into the gravel runoff.

The speed was so great, that Pumpelly ended up rolling into the tire barrier, with the rear tires of the car coming to rest on top.

It was reported that a brake failure was the cause of the vicious hit. Pumpelly was able to climb out of the car under his own power.

The DNF marks what’s looking to be a brutal day for JD Motorsports. Both Jeffery Earnhardt and Colby Howard failed to qualify for Saturday’s race. With Pumpelly out of the race, Landon Cassill remains as the last hope for a solid day for the JD Motorsports bunch.

The 46-year-old driver made his Xfinity Series debut earlier this year at COTA with JD Motorsports, bringing the No. 6 home in the 19th position.

Ryan Vargas, the traditional driver for the No. 6 entry, is expected to return to the driver’s seat next week in Atlanta.
