For the race teams operating on smaller budgets, having a solid owner points position can be the difference between qualifying for a NASCAR Xfinity Series event and being sent home early.

With the Xfinity Series often having entry lists that consist of 39 entries, for just 38 spots in the field, two organizations have been engaged in a shot-for-shot battle to better position themselves to qualify for the remaining events in 2024.

Joey Gase Motorsports (JGM) has acquired a set of NASCAR Xfinity Series owner points for its No. 53 entry from JD Motorsports, NASCAR confirmed to TobyChristie.com, the points that the team utilized to field the No. 6 Chevrolet in the opening 18 races of the season.

Those points are currently ranked 39th in NASCAR Xfinity Series owner points, only one spot behind the No. 35, the organization’s flagship entry piloted by multiple drivers.

For the organization, which is owned by long-time Xfinity Series driver Joey Gase, the acquisition of owner points will allow the No. 53 to be out of the dangerous ‘Go or Go Home’ zone in qualifying each week.

The team’s second entry was ranked 46th in owner points before the acquisition, with the new points allowing them to jump the No. 24 for Sam Hunt Racing, the No. 74 for Mike Harmon Racing, the No. 10 for Kaulig Racing, and the No. 30 for Rette Jones Racing.

Just last week, Mike Harmon Racing, which fields the No. 74 Chevrolet Camaro, announced it had purchased a set of owner points from Richard Childress Racing, which had catapulted the entry up above the JGM No. 53.

Heading into Talladega, with 39 drivers on the entry list for 38 spots, Mike Harmon Racing now returns to being in the ‘Go or Go Home’ position, with the No. 53, scheduled to be driven by Carson Ware, just above.
