Sam Mayer will be one of the four drivers who will battle for the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship at Phoenix Raceway as he scored his fourth win of the year in Saturday’s Contender Boats 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the second of three races in the Playoffs Round of 8.
Mayer led the race on three separate occasions for a total of 46 laps, and he took the lead for the final time with 31 laps remaining in the event.
Following post-race inspection, NASCAR made it official and declared Mayer and his No. 1 JR Motorsports team the official winners of the race.
The No. 21 Richard Childress Racing car (driven by Austin Hill) had two unsecured lug nuts in post-race inspection, which will result in a one-race suspension of crew chief Andy Street.
The No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car (driven by Joe Graf Jr.) had one unsecured lug nut, which will result in a monetary fine for the crew chief.
There were no other issues in post-race inspection, which means all results and standings following Saturday’s race are now considered official.
Riley Herbst, who won last weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, was the official runner-up finisher, as he came up just 0.227 sec. shy of his second-consecutive win.
John Hunter Nemechek came home in the third position, while Austin Hill and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top-five finishers in the race.
