Without a doubt, Friday Night’s Xfinity Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway was the closest Sam Mayer has been to a victory in the second-tier series, but it wasn’t meant to be.

In the closing laps of the event, JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier got into the back of Mayer while the pair were chasing down race leader Austin Cindric, resulting in contact and a late-race caution for the spin by the No. 8, which also collected Josh Williams.

The spin put the event into NASCAR Overtime, which as it usually does, erupted chaos into the remaining drivers in the field.
