It looked for sure like Chase Elliott, who was leading, or Martin Truex Jr., who had dominated the race winning Stages 1 and 2, were going to win the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
However, with 14 laps left in the race, Truex got a run and attempted to get by Elliott for the lead and potential win. Then, Truex misjudged and thought he was clear. He wasn’t.

This incident ended both driver’s shot at a victory in the crown jewel event.
