Oh my goodness, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship battle may have just been turned on it’s head as the favorite for the title all season long, John Hunter Nemechek has crashed and is done for the day on lap 131.

Nemechek had just made contact with Austin Wayne Self, which put Nemechek in a position to attempt a pass on Self down the backstretch. When Nemechek pulled out for the pass, Self turned left into the right rear quarterpanel of Nemechek’s truck.

The contact sent Nemechek hard into the wall. The damage was so severe that Nemechek was done for the day.

Here is video of the crash:

Nemechek was very displeased by Self’s move. Following a trip to the infield care center, Nemechek questioned whether Self deserves to be on the track after Saturday’s incident.

“I don’t know. He shouldn’t be out here if he’s just going to hook somebody in the right rear and turn them into the fence,” Nemechek stated. “He shouldn’t out here and NASCAR should definitely look at that. Playoff contention, you got to have respect and obviously, he doesn’t. It is what it is and hopefully we make the final four.”

Nemechek will most likely make it into the Championship 4 by way of points, but if something crazy happens, the championship favorite could be out of contention for the championship at Phoenix.
