There will be a new, but familiar face behind the wheel of the No.52 Halmar Toyota Tundra when NASCAR visits the Kansas Speedway.
Timothy Peters, 40, a veteran of the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series, will return to the series, piloting the No. 52 Halmar Friesen Racing entry in Kansas.
Stewart Friesen, the current full-time driver for the team in the Truck Series, will miss the race due to a previously scheduled event.
Friesen is scheduled to participate in the Speed Showcase 200 at Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania for the Short Track Super Series.
“The Kansas scheduled changed recently announced by NASCAR moved the truck race to the same date as our previous commitment with the Short Track Super Series at Port Royal Speedway,” Friesen said in a team release. “Since we are not in the NGROTS playoffs this year, we decided to bring in Timothy Peters to drive the truck for us in Kansas. We are excited to see what Timothy can do with the HFR No. 52 Toyota Tundra. With his successful history in the Truck Series, we are confident in his ability to drive our truck to a strong finish.”
HFR originally tapped NASCAR Cup Series driver Christopher Bell to drive the No. 52 , however due to the NASCAR Rulebook Section 7.1.a – “A driver that elected to accumulate Points in the NASCAR Cup Series is not eligible to enter the last eight Events of thee NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Race season.”
The team was forced to retract their released plans and search for a new driver for the race weekend.
Peters was an active full-time driver in the series until 2017 when his team, Red Horse Racing, shut down due to lack of funding.
The Providence, North Carolina native has made nearly 250 starts in the series, scoring 11 wins, 59 Top-5 finishes, and 128 Top-10 finishes. His career average start and finish sit just outside the top 10 in the 12th place range.
His most recent win came in a part-time schedule with GMS Racing in 2019, when he drove the No. 25 Silverado to victory lane at Talladega.
