NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway is really cool because you get to see current NASCAR racing with nods and tributes back to the legends of years past. Ryan Vargas, who hails from La Mirada, California, will honor a legend in the annals of West Coast racing history — Sean Woodside.

Vargas will drive the No. 30 On Point Motorsports Toyota Tundra at Darlington Raceway, and the paint scheme will look like the No. 31 Ford F-150 truck that Woodside piloted for two races during the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season.

Woodside was the 1999 NASCAR Southwest Series champion, a series that is now known as the ARCA Menards Series West.

Vargas competed against Woodside at Irwindale Speedway on his 17th birthday back in 2017, and after dominating the event, Vargas was passed in the closing laps for the win by Woodside.

After the race, the two drivers shared a conversation. The advice given in that chat with Woodside sticks with Vargas to this day.

“We dominated the race, leading a majority of the laps. All except the last two where Sean schooled me on a restart and got the win,” Vargas recalled. “After the race, I asked him just for some advice on racing and how he goes about a race. We talked for probably no more than 10 minutes. However, after that conversation, we started winning a lot more frequently, and I definitely use some of his advice today.”

KDST CPA, which sponsored Vargas in his stint with JD Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will serve as the hood sponsor for the race.

“Returning to the sponsorship fold for 2023 is Miami, Florida’s KSDT CPA,” Vargas explained. “KSDT KSDT CPA is one of the fastest growing and respected, full-service accounting and advisory firms in South Florida, and has been recognized by Forbes as Forbes as “America’s Top Recommended Tax and Accounting Firm” for 2022

“We also welcome back Rangeline, PVI Industries, Williamsburg Contracting, and Advanced Masonry & Concrete!”

Vargas and On Point will also welcome a new partner on the truck at Darlington in TRS SESCO.

“I’m very excited to welcome a new partner board this upcoming Darlington weekend in TRS SESCO,” Vargas said. “TRS SESCO is the leading HVAC and plumbing solutions provider in the Southeastern United States and I’m so thrilled to welcome them aboard and showcase their excellent HVAC and Plumbing solutions along with their top-of-the-line customer service.”
