According to an update to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry list for this weekend’s season-opening NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona International Speedway, Norm Benning will pilot the No. 46 Toyota Tundra for G2G Racing.

Johnny Sauter was originally scheduled to drive the truck, as he was listed on the initial entry list shared by NASCAR on Monday.

Back on February 2nd, G2G Racing’s team owner Tim Viens shared with TobyChristie.com that Sauter would pilot one of the organization’s two trucks, while Viens himself would pilot the second entry.

On February 6th, the G2G Racing team issued a press release that featured the same driver lineup.

In the end, one of G2G Racing’s entries will show up for Daytona, and Sauter will be replaced by Benning.

Benning, 71, has made a total of 244 starts in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition, but DNQed on all four of his attempts during the 2022 season.

The Pennsylvania native has become a fan-favorite over the years due to his unwavering persistence. While Benning has never scored a top-10 finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, he is forever etched into the brains of fans of the series.

In the first-ever NCTS Dirt Race at Eldora Speedway in 2013, Benning utterly used up his race truck in the last-chance qualifier race but made his way into the big show.

Benning would pilot the No. 57 Chevrolet Silverado to a 26th-place finish.

A 12th-place effort by Benning in the 2013 race at Talladega Superspeedway is his career-best finish to date.
