Kyle Busch, the winningest driver in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history, will once again strap behind the wheel of a truck for a five-race schedule in 2024, joining Spire Motorsports to pilot the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado.
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will make his first start of the season in Saturday’s Fr8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (February 24). Busch’s schedule will also include events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 1), Bristol Motor Speedway (March 16), Texas Motor Speedway (April 12), and Darlington Raceway (May 10).
Competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing, Busch has an established history of running multiple races in one weekend, doing so for much of his tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing, which spanned from 2008 to 2022.
Group 1001, the parent company of major Spire Motorsports partner Gainbridge, will serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado for the first two events on Busch’s schedule this season, at Atlanta and Las Vegas.
Prior to the start of 2024, Busch sold his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series organization, Kyle Busch Motorsports, to Spire Motorsports, which now operates its three Truck Series teams and three NASCAR Cup Series teams out of its facility.
“Even before I was an owner, I always enjoyed racing in the Truck Series, so I’m thankful to Jeff [Dickerson], TJ [Puchyr], and everyone at Spire Motorsports for the opportunity to compete in the five races that I’m allowed to do each season,” said Busch. “A lot of the employees from KBM transitioned over to Spire, and I’ll be working with [Brian] Pattie and the same group that I had last year, so while it’ll be a little bittersweet not having a KBM decal on the front of the truck and a 51 on the side, I know that I’ll be getting in the best equipment in the series. Once I’m behind the wheel, it’ll look and feel like home and just like always, my only goal will be to add more banners in the shop.”
Busch is one of NASCAR’s most accomplished drivers, leading the all-time wins list in both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and amassing more than 200 victories between NASCAR’s National divisions.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native is a two-time champion of the NASCAR Cup Series, and also the 2009 champion of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, all of which he captured with Joe Gibbs Racing throughout his 15-year tenure with the organization.
“We’re very fortunate and thankful to have great partners like Group 1001 who allow us to be creative and put the best talent behind the wheel while we chase a NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series owner’s championship,” said Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson. “Kyle Busch is a generational talent and I’ve been fortunate enough to witness so many of his accomplishments first-hand. It means a lot to everyone at Spire Motorsports, including everyone who stayed after the sale, to have Kyle in our truck this season. And, it means a great deal to me personally, for us to make this happen.”
The FR8 208 is part of a doubleheader from Atlanta Motor Speedway, set to take place on Saturday, February 24. Of the two races on Saturday, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will go first, with coverage of the event starting at 2:00 PM ET.
