Keith McGee, a part-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor for Reaume Brothers Racing, captured a substantial alongside victory on Friday night as he along with his co-driver Derek Bieri of Vice Grip Garage took home the checkered flag in the 2.4 Hours of Le Mullets at Freedom Factory, a 3/8-mile asphalt track located in Bradenton, FL.
On Monday, McGee told TobyChristie.com in an exclusive interview that he was honored to take home the win in a stacked field of professional drivers, and big-time influencers.
“It’s awesome,” McGee said of the victory. “I mean, this is a field that is stacked with legends of action sports, tons of YouTube stars, and other forms of celebrities. I think the total was like 45 million followers combined was what the number was for the drivers in attendance. To go down there as a small potato in the grand scheme of things and pull out the victory was incredible.”
While it was a big win for himself, personally, McGee was also proud to deliver the win for Bieri, who has tried for years, but come up short, in capturing the win in the 2.4 Hours of Le Mullets.
“Derek from Vice Grip Garage has always come up second a lot at these events and has never been able to secure a victory. So, to go down there and help secure that victory for him, it means a lot to me,” McGee said.
The 2.4 Hours of Le Mullets is an annual endurance test around the Freedom Factory, where two-driver teams tackle the track in Ford Crown Victorias. The race didn’t disappoint as McGee narrowly defeated Cleetus McFarland, who puts on the event each season, by a margin of 1.643 seconds.
As far as the event, it is split up into two Stages, one driver completes half of the timed distance of the race, the event is paused and a 10-minute driver change takes place, and then the final driver straps in and finishes out the distance of the race.
McGee and Bieri qualified runner-up, but after a full-field inversion heading into the seven-lap qualifying race, they had to claw their way from the back of the 21-car field. Bieri would climb his way up to ninth by the end of the qualifier, and he would be the leader at the end of the opening half of the race.
Bieri would give way to McGee, who would run the final 89 laps of the event to score the race win over the team of McFarland and Justin Hildebrand, the owner of JH Diesel.
The team of Liam Doran and Danger Dan would come home in third ahead of Roman Atwood and Demo Matt, and Jim York and Andy Bell finished inside the top five in the feature race.
Former NASCAR star Greg Biffle, who has been putting in overtime recently in his efforts to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene in the Carolinas, finished seventh in the event in the No. 1670 entry in a team effort with Brad DeBerti. Biffle’s team finished 11 laps off the pace.
NASCAR Cup Series star Noah Gragson, who was paired with action sports superstar Travis Pastrana, came home 15th in the No. 199 entry in the final running order. Gragson completed 16 of the 89 laps in the final portion of the event.
