Hettinger Racing Acquires Bret Holmes Racing Assets; Running Final Two Truck Races of 2024

As one team exits, a new one emerges. Hettinger Racing, a longtime Late Model team from Michigan, has announced it has acquired the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series assets from Bret Holmes Racing team, which last week announced it would shut down its organization with three races remaining in the 2024 season.

Hettinger Racing has hired Brett Moffitt, the 2018 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, as the driver of its newly branded No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado, and the team will make its debut this weekend in the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 200 at Martinsville Speedway with primary sponsorship from Victory Custom Trailers.

Hettinger and Moffitt will return for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway next week as the team prepares for the 2025 season.

“Brett Moffitt gives us a great opportunity to get a head start on 2025,” Hettinger Racing team owner Chris Hettinger said. “He’s proven himself in the Truck Series and his feedback from this week’s race at Martinsville and next week’s race at Phoenix will be invaluable.”

The long-term plan for the Hettinger Racing Truck Series program is to serve as a stepping stone for young drivers, which the team plans to nurture from the Late Model ranks up to ARCA and into the NASCAR National Series level. As of now, the team plans to field a part-time entry in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2025.

“Between the investments I’ve made over the years in our Late Model program and the opportunity to purchase Bret Holmes Racing, the time was right to grow Hettinger Racing into a team that can further drivers’ development by seamlessly transitioning them from Late Models to ARCA to Trucks,” team owner Chris Hettinger said in a press release. “We’ll continue our Late Model program by running the zMAX CARS Tour, and we’ll run select ARCA and Truck Series races that fit best with our overall schedule.”

Moffitt, 32, who has clawed for every opportunity he’s had in NASCAR, is excited to hit the ground running with Hettinger Racing. While it’s a new team, Moffitt says the equipment is top-notch, which is why he felt compelled to get behind the wheel this weekend and next weekend.

“I said earlier this year that when it came to racing, I wanted quality over quantity, and the equipment Chris Hettinger already had was second to none,” Moffitt explained. “With his purchase of Bret Holmes Racing, Chris’ operation is scaled up and ready to tackle the Truck Series. I feel like the potential is there, and I’m really looking forward to driving their Chevy and getting Hettinger Racing prepared for next year.”

Moffitt is a 13-time race-winning driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The Iowa native’s last full-time season in the series came in 2020, a season where he won a race and finished third in the championship standings. In a one-off start last season with Front Row Motorsports, Moffitt picked up a race win last year in the Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Moffitt has a 10.0 average finish this season with just two starts on his record. He’ll look to pad the stat line over the next couple of weeks as he helps the Hettinger Racing team get a leg up on things for the 2025 season.
