Video: Justin Allgaier Crashes in Xfinity Practice; Alon Day Plows into Allgaier After Crash

It was a less than ideal start to the day at the Chicago Street Course for Justin Allgaier and Alon Day. Roughly 15 minutes into Saturday morning’s practice session for the NASCAR Xfinity Series The Loop 110, Allgaier pounded the tire barrier and wall in Turn 4.

As Allgaier’s car came to a stop at the wall, Alon Day, who is driving the No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro for Alpha Prime Racing, didn’t see Allgaier’s car sitting there, and he slammed into the rear of Allgaier’s car with the side of his race car.

The impact obliterated the rear of Allgaier’s car, and it shredded the driver’s side body work and door foam on Day’s car.

“From my side, I couldn’t hear anything. I came in really, really hot. What can I say? I’m really disappointed in myself, for my Alpha Prime team and JSSI as a sponsor,” Day explained. “Yeah, that was a quick, very quick weekend. What can I say? I wish that I could know that Justin was there. I also followed [Ryan Sieg], we went really quick into the corner, and then saw everyone braking and then the car showed up in the middle.”

Fortunately, both drivers were able to walk away from the crash. But for Day, it is a tough situation as his No. 45 team didn’t have a backup car, and as a result, he will not be one of the 38 cars that run in Saturday’s race.
