What originally started as a five-race agreement to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, has turned into a full-time ride for Matt DiBenedetto.

The Grass Valley, California-native will finish the season with Viking Motorsports, as the full-time driver of the No. 38 Ford Mustang, which features a partnership with RSS Racing.

“We are very excited to have Matt join us for the remainder of the 2024 season and (hopefully) beyond,” said Don Sackett, team owner of Viking Motorsports. “His skill behind the wheel and his dedication to the sport make him an ideal fit for our team. We believe this partnership will not only elevate our performance on the track but also provide a platform for growth and success in the seasons to come.”

DiBenedetto will be entered in each of the final 23 NASCAR Xfinity Series events of the year, as he and Viking Motorsports have succeeded in putting together an agreement to run all future oval and road course events.

“2024 holds immense promise for Viking Motorsports, and having Matt lead the charge only amplifies our excitement,” added Sackett. “We eagerly anticipate the opportunities that lie ahead and are eager to share this journey with our dedicated fans, partners, and supporters.”

In his first five-race stint as the driver of the No. 38 Viking Motorsports entry, DiBenedetto has recorded three finishes inside the top-20, including a career-best eighth-place result at Talladega Superspeedway.

Having spent seven years competing in the NASCAR Cup Series, recording nine top-five and 31 top-10 finishes, DiBenedetto brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that could easily assist a startup team such as Viking Motorsports.

Before this season, DiBenedetto was competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Rackley WAR, where he scored a victory at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2022, and qualified for the post-season in 2023, before being dismissed.

According to a team press release, Viking Motorsports is looking for additional sponsorship to further advance the operation’s performance.
