Martin Truex Jr. and Matt Kenseth will now have a more difficult path if they intend on winning Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway.

Both drivers had cars that failed pre-race technical inspection twice and as such will have to drop to the rear before Sunday’s race.

Each driver will be officially credited with their original starting spot.

Truex was slated to start ninth, while Kenseth was scheduled to roll from the 17th starting spot.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s driver of the No. 19, Truex sits seventh in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series championship standings heading into Sunday’s race. Truex has one win on the year, which came at Martinsville.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s driver of the No. 42, Kenseth sits 28th in the standings after being called back into action after the organization parted ways with Kyle Larson in April. Kenseth finished second in last week’s Brickyard 400.
