Harrison Burton, who won the pole for the Snowball Derby a year ago, had a disappointing qualifying run this year and as a result faced the 50-lap Last Chance Qualifying Race if he wanted to compete in the 52nd annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway.

Coming to the white flag, Burton was in the final transfer position in fourth for Sunday’s big show. Unfortunately, Carson Hocevar made contact with Rich Bickle, which sent Bickle into Burton.

The contact with Bickle sent Burton hard into the wall ending his night and chances at making it into the Derby.

Here is video of the crash:

All three drivers, who were in transfer positions coming to the white flag, failed to advance to the Derby field.

For Harrison Burton, he felt he was in a safe position heading into the final lap.

“Well, I knew I was in fourth and they slipped up a lot and there was a lane for me and I felt it was safe for me to be on the inside ’cause I felt I couldn’t get wrecked on the inside,” Burton said in a chat with Matt Weaver following his crash.

The four drivers who advanced to Sunday’s big show are: Dan Frederickson, Brad May, Rodrigo Rijon and Boris Jurkovic.

Hocevar, Bickle and Burton all have NASCAR ties. Jordan Anderson also failed to make the field for the Snowball Derby.
