It doesn’t matter which way they’re turning, how long the track is, or if they’ve never even seen the track before, Hendrick Motorsports continues to be the class of the field in the NASCAR Cup Series, sweeping the front row for the series’ return to Road America, with the team’s youngest driver, William Byron, claiming the pole by nearly two tenths over Kyle Larson.

AJ Allmendinger, Tyler Reddick an Austin Cindric rounded out the top-five, with Denny Hamlin, Matt DiBenedetto, Ross Chastain, Martin Truex Jr, Alex Bowman, Daniel Suarez and Chris Buescher rounding out the 12 drivers that advanced to the second round of qualifying.

The first round of qualifying was eventful for a number of drivers, with a pair of stoppages in the 25-minute session for stalled vehicles by Kyle Tilley and Bubba Wallace.

Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe, Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Ty Dillon and Kyle Busch were unable to get a full up-to-speed lap posted throughout the session, which will result in a large deficit to start the event, taking the green flag in 34th through 40th-place.
