Video: Pace Car Crashes into Pit Road Sand Barrels Ahead of Stage 2 Restart

Well, that’s something you don’t see every week… The NASCAR Cup Series pace car driver picked the absolute worst time to have an issue. On Lap 68 as the field was set to go back green to restart the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race in Phoenix, the pace car driver missed his mark on getting the car back to pit road.

After turning in late, the pace car driver attempted to make it down pit road, but lost control, and slammed into the sand barrels which protect the blunt edge of the pit road wall.

The race was put into a red flag situation as officials fixed the barrels at the entrance of pit road. Fortunately, the pace car driver narrowly avoided contact with Chase Elliott, the race leader, in the spin.
