Video: Outside Pole Sitter, Alex Bowman Will Go to Backup Car After Crash in Final Minute of Practice

Alex Bowman’s weekend was shaping up to be pretty good. He has a spiffy new Nationwide Retirement Plans paint scheme, and he was set to roll from the outside of the front row in Sunday’s Bank of America 400 at the Roval. Unfortunately, in the final minute of Saturday’s final practice session, Bowman lost control of his car and slammed the outside wall.

The damage to the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was substantial enough, that Bowman and his team will have to switch to their backup car.

This means he will start at the rear of the field in an untested car. With a spot in Round 2 of the Playoffs on the line, it will be a pressure packed Sunday for Bowman.
