A topsy-turvy day at Bristol got even wilder as a multi-car pileup claimed many big names that were early favorites for the Food City Dirt Race.

Coming off turn four just one lap after a restart, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney was noticeably slower as he drove into a giant cloud of dust. An oncoming Kyle Busch got into the right rear quarter panel of Blaney, and a rushing Ryan Preece set off a multi-car wreck.

Many more cars including 2021 Daytona 500 champion Michael McDowell, Alex Bowman Austin Dillon, and Kyle Larson found themselves spinning into the wreck while trying to slow down. Larson in particular has found himself apart of multiple wrecks throughout the race on Monday and was racing multiple laps down. The Rick Ware Racing duo of J.J. Yeley and Cody Ware both found themselves in the wreck as well.

Busch came over the radio immediately following the crash, stating his case that the visibility on-track thanks to the dust is incredibly poor. All drivers involved were able to continue, with quite a few remaining multiple laps down.

As a result of the continuous problem of visibility, NASCAR has decided to change the restart format to a single file format for the remainder of the race.
