Video: Kaz Grala Involved in Brutal Wreck During Cup Practice at Dover

Kaz Grala will not be participating in qualifying for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Dover Motor Speedway, after a brutal accident in the closing moments of practice for Saturday’s Würth 400.

The Boston, Massachusetts native was on-track making his 28th lap around the one-mile concrete oval when his No. 15 N29 Capital Partners Ford Mustang Dark Horse snapped loose at the exit of the final corner, and turned head-on into the outside wall.

Driving for Rick Ware Racing, Grala would end up being 29th-place in Saturday’s multi-group practice session at Dover Motor Speedway, but will now be put back to square one, as the underdog organization will have to scramble to prepare a car for Sunday’s race.

Upon exiting the infield care center, Grala was unsure about the situation for Rick Ware Racing when it comes to having a backup car available, although the damage to the No. 15 Ford Mustang was substantial.

Grala is competing for Rookie of The Year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series this season against Josh Berry, Carson Hocevar, and Zane Smith. Smith, driving the No. 71 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, also had major issues in practice, crashing into the outside wall at the exit of the second corner.

No replay was shown of the accident for Smith, although the damage to his Spire Motorsports entry was severe.
