Video: Corey LaJoie Crashes in NASCAR Cup Qualifying

Corey LaJoie had a fast No. 7 Spire Motorsports Celsius Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as he had just clocked the seventh-fastest lap in Group A’s round 1 qualifying session. However, heading into Turn 11, as he was trying to advance his way inside the top five to give himself an entry into the second round of NASCAR Cup Series qualifying, LaJoie overstepped the boundaries.

The No. 7 Chevrolet kicked sideways as LaJoie carried too much speed into the sharp corner, and LaJoie attempted to save the car, but with the confines of the Chicago Street Course being so tight, LaJoie had nowhere to go except the barriers.

LaJoie missed the tire barrier and pounded the concrete barrier in Turn 11. This caused severe damage to the rear end of LaJoie’s car and ended his qualifying session. The driver, even if his team is able to make repairs, will have to start at the rear of Sunday’s Grant Park 165 due to unapproved adjustments.
