Alex Bowman saw his day come undone after contact from Denny Hamlin sent him spinning in Turn 11 on Lap 41.

Alex Bowman was battling for position just outside the top-10 with Denny Hamlin on Lap 41 of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Grant Park 220 street race at the Chicago Street Course, when things went awry for the driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

As Bowman headed into Turn 11 around the 12-Turn course, the driver of the No. 48 car received a nudge from behind from Hamlin in the No. 11 Toyota. The nudge sent Bowman spinning.

Here is a video of the incident between Hamlin and Bowman:

While Bowman didn’t receive any body damage in the incident, he lost a lap trying to get out of the spun-out situation he was in, which brought out the fourth caution of the race.

Then, as Bowman attempted to get ready for the next restart, the engine on his No. 48 machine went south.

Bowman attempted to finish the race, but his car came to a stop on track on Lap 45, and smoke and fire began to come from under the hood. Bowman will finish the race in the 37th and last finishing position.
