Bubba Wallace, who was 96 points outside of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff cutline heading into Sunday’s Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, needed a good day.
Unfortunately, for the driver of the No. 23 DoorDash Toyota Camry, he’ll leave California with a dead-last 36th-place finish after the engine let go on his car after just 9 laps completed in Sunday’s race.
Here is video of Wallace’s motor expiring:

The 28-year old Wallace has had a frustrating second season with 23XI Racing, the team owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. The Alabama-native started the season off with a second-place finish in the Daytona 500, but things have really spiraled out of control ever since.
Whether it be mistakes by the pit crew, bad strategy calls, damage clocks or mechanical failures, Wallace has struggled mightily through the year, despite the No. 23 car having speed on several occasions.
