Austin Dillon lost control in Turn 3 on his third lap of practice at Dover and pounded the outside wall.

Disaster for Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing team as they will have to unload a backup car for Sunday’s Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.

Dillon turned around and backed into the outside wall in Turn 3 on his second lap of practice for NASCAR Cup Series group A on Saturday. After the session was red-flagged for Dillon’s crash, the track clean-up team discovered water pouring from under the SAFER barrier where Dillon’s car collided.

It appeared that the impact to the wall shook loose standing water from behind the wall.

Here is a video of Dillon’s hard crash from Saturday’s practice session:

RCR confirmed that the No. 3 team will go to a backup car, after Dillon was checked and released from the infield care center following the hard impact.

After Dillon found the outside wall, Daniel Suarez took a spin as well in Turn 3, but Suarez was able to keep his car out of the wall.

When group B took to the track for practice, the Dover Motor Speedway proved to still be quite treacherous as Erik Jones went for a spin, but like Suarez was fortunate enough to not hit anything.
