Two Team Members Suspended For Behavioral Infractions, Houghtaling Reinstated

NASCAR has announced the indefinite suspension of two NASCAR National Series team members following this past weekend’s racing action at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kase Kallenbach, the crew chief for the No. 6 JD Motorsports team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, was listed on the weekly penalty report as being in violation of sections 4.4.e of the NASCAR Rule Book.

According to the NASCAR Rule Book, violations of sections 4.4.e could include:

• Actions by a NASCAR Member that NASCAR finds to be detrimental to stock car racing or NASCAR.
• Statement and/or communication made public (including social media platforms) that demeans, criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.
• Being charged with or convicted of significant criminal violations (e.g. Domestic Violence, Trafficking, Assault), or having had determinations rendered by criminal or civil authorities that in NASCAR’s judgment necessitate action. NASCAR will not pre-judge guilt or innocence in the criminal or civil legal system, or the guilt or innocence of the Member, but rather review each matter in its own context and circumstances and with regards to its potential effects upon the sport.
• Violations of NASCAR’s Sports Gambling Policy.

As a result, Kallenbach is indefinitely suspended.

Michael Adair, the hauler driver for the No. 43 Petty GMS Motorsports team, was also listed on the penalty report and will be indefinitely suspended for a substance abuse policy violation. Adair was found to be in violation of sections 4.1 and 10.1 of the NASCAR Rule Book.

Additionally, Jason Houghtaling, who had been previously suspended by the sanctioning body for a behavioral violation, has been reinstated and is cleared to return to all NASCAR activity.

The final penalty on the penalty report this week was a $5,000 fine for Michael Brandt, the crew chief for the No. 44 Alpha Prime Racing team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The No. 44 car had one improperly secured lug nut following Saturday’s race at Charlotte.
