Todd Gilliland and Cody Ware will be without their usual crew chiefs for the remainder of Speedweeks, after violations were found in pre-race inspection for the Duels at Daytona International Speedway.
According to NASCAR, both the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford Mustang Dark Horse and the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse were found to have improper weights during inspection.
Chris Lawson (Front Row Motorsports) and Billy Plourde (Rick Ware Racing) have been ejected for the remainder of the DAYTONA 500 race weekend, which culminates with Sunday’s event.
Kevyn Rebolledo will take over as crew chief for Todd Gilliland’s NASCAR Cup Series entry for the remainder of the weekend, while Tommy Baldwin will take over for Cody Ware.
Rebolledo has amassed 30 career starts as a NASCAR Cup Series crew chief, all of which came for Rick Ware Racing during the 2022 season — the first year of the seventh-generation racecar — with a best finish of ninth in the DAYTONA 500.
Baldwin is a five-time race-winning crew chief at NASCAR’s top level, including a victory in the prestigious DAYTONA 500 in 2002 with Ward Burton and Bill Davis Racing.
Sunday’s 500-mile contest will mark Baldwin’s first time on the pit box since the 2020 season finale at Phoenix Raceway.
Gilliland ranked 14th in Wednesday’s single-vehicle qualifying session from Daytona International Speedway and will start from seventh in the second Duel on Thursday evening.
Ware will also be running in the second Duel race, starting shotgun on the field, after posting the slowest lap of the 45 drivers to post a lap time in qualifying.
The Duels at Daytona will take place on Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 PM ET. Coverage of the event will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
