LEGACY MOTOR CLUB picked up a small victory on Wednesday in its legal battle against fellow NASCAR Cup Series team Rick Ware Racing as a Mecklenburg County Superior Court Judge granted a temporary restraining order, which will be placed on Rick Ware Racing.

Rick Ware Racing will be restrained from selling or leasing a Charter for 10 days or until an agreement can be made between LEGACY MOTOR CLUB and Rick Ware Racing.

While the TRO was a win for the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team, Rick Ware Racing agreed to the restraining order in an effort to cool down the situation.

“RWR agreed to the TRO. It serves as a calming measure by letting Legacy know that RWR has no intention of transacting while we vindicate our legal rights in court,” a statement from a Rick Ware Racing team spokesperson said.

The restraining order is in reference to a purchase agreement for a current Rick Ware Racing Team Charter, which LEGACY MOTOR CLUB alleged in a complaint filed to the Court last week. In the April 1 court documents, which were filled with redactions, LMC alleged that they and RWR had signed and initialed an agreement for LMC to acquire one of RWR’s NASCAR Cup Series Team Charters for the 2026 season.

According to LMC, RWR attempted to back out of the deal after the paperwork had been signed, and refused to finalize the agreement.

Now, the two race teams, who battle it out on the track on a weekly basis in the NASCAR Cup Series, will likely battle it out in a courtroom if they can’t come to an agreement away from the Court.

In this week’s episode of The Dale Jr. Download, Jordan Bianchi, a reporter for The Athletic, revealed that it is believed that LEGACY MOTOR CLUB agreed to purchase the Charter from Rick Ware Racing for $45 million which would be a record amount for a NASCAR Cup Series team Charter, if true.

  1. Is that the same charter RFK is leasing from Rick Ware this year? I think the only way LMC is going to go anywhere in Toyota is to form an alliance with JGR like 23/11 did. I don’t think a third car will help them. It sounds like $45 million would be wasted if they stayed with Toyota. I’d like to see Legacy and Rick Ware merge as a Ford team aligned with RFK and Hass Factory team. There is a lot of technical information they aren’t getting now being on an island by themself with Toyota and Rick Ware would be better off as well.
