Monster Energy is entertaining the thought of expanding their sponsorship of Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 1 car, which is currently driven by Kurt Busch according to a report from Sports Business Journal.

Monster, who will end their run as the NASCAR Cup Series title sponsor at the end of this season, will look at raising their sponsorship funds for the team from $5-million annually to $10-million.

Busch, who was thought to be in his final season when he announced his move to CGR in the offseason, has been actively seeking a contract extension with CGR and the extension and expansion of funds from Monster Energy should do nothing but bolster contract talks for Busch.

This likely leaves Ross Chastain as the odd man out with the race team.

Chastain was already in limbo with the team after DC Solar had their offices raided by the FBI in the off season. Chastain will likely run a full season for Kaulig Racing in 2020 in one of their NASCAR Xfinity Series cars.
