NASCAR is expected to add Iowa Speedway to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, per a report from Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic. Per the report, an announcement is expected as early as Tuesday, October 3rd.

Iowa Speedway is a 0.875-mile oval located in Newton, Iowa that since opening in 2006 has hosted several NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, and NTT IndyCar Series events.

Kim Reynolds, the Governor of Iowa, recently announced a news conference scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd, to “announce a new major sports and entertainment event to be held in Iowa in 2024.”

Per The Athletic, the addition of Iowa Speedway to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule fills the void left when California Speedway was dropped from the 2024 schedule, due to its proposed renovation project.

After discussing several options, including the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series event outside the United States at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, series officials instead decided to bring NASCAR’s top-level to Iowa Speedway for the first time.

The full NASCAR Cup Series schedule, as well as likely the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedules, are expected to be announced at some point during the week.
