NASCAR has confiscated the spoiler from the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Toyota Camry driven by NASCAR Playoff competitor Martin Truex, Jr., following a pre-race technical inspection failure for Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The No. 19 will lose 20 driver and owner points and will have to start at the rear of the field in Sunday’s 500-mile event at the 1.5-mile track. Crew chief James Small will also be ejected from the facility for the remainder of today’s event.

Truex entered Sunday’s event 7th in point standings, only 23 points behind the bubble spot to advance to the final four. The 20-point penalty will keep Truex in 7th, but will relegate him to 43 points behind the bubble, in what could be considered a must-win situation.
