NASCAR Cup Series driver Matt DiBenedetto is entering Bristol this weekend -25 points below the Playoff cut line – placing him in a likely “must-win” scenario to advance.

However, this is likely not the only thing on DiBenedetto’s mind.

DiBenedetto does not have a firm confirmation on his ride for 2021 as of now. He joined Wood Brothers Racing after Leavine Family Racing and the fan favorite driver parted ways to make room for Christopher Bell at the end of the 2020 season.

When asked about his contract status for 2021 on Thursday in a media availability, DiBenedetto shed some light on a timeline for his future.

“As far as my contract stuff, it has options for I think 2021, ‘22 and ‘23, if I’m not mistaken, so it’s a multi-year deal opportunity,” DiBenedetto said. “But the team has to pick it up each year and the deadline for that is at the end of this month, so I guess I should know pretty soon.”

The Grass Valley, California native has said on the record multiple times that he hopes to be a part of the Wood Brothers family for years to come.

“They heavily expressed they wanted this to be a long-term relationship, something that we build for a long time to come, he said. “All those things, so that was very encouraging when I came over here. I do not want to go anywhere. I love driving for the Wood Brothers.  It’s a dream come true.”

The 30 year old driver is currently in the midst of one of his best seasons yet, scoring two top-5 finishes, seven top-10 finishes, and making his first-ever NASCAR Playoff appearance.

The NASCAR Cup Series will cap off the first round of the 2020 Playoffs in Bristol, Tennessee on Saturday at 7:30 PM on NBCSN and the NBC Sports App.
